February is an exciting month in the world of contemporary art – it is the month when the major publishers launch their new range of art for 2013. Tomorrow we go down to Birmingham where we shall be treated to our first viewing of collections from such artists as Paul Horton, Simon Claridge, Alexander Millar, Shazia and Craig Davison. There will also be a few artists whose work we haven’t seen before – the problem with buying new work is the difficulty in judging whether or not it will sell – still the guys at Washington Green know what they are doing so they usually get it right.
This week we have taken on some new original work by Allan Morgan – bright colourful landscapes and Margaret Hughlock – a couple of three dimensional hearts – just right for a unique Valentine’s day gift.
We have also had a slight return to our early days in the art business. Back in the 1990’s, one of the most popular artists we stocked was a Dutch artist called Willem Haenraets – his dreamy landscape and portrait pieces, some limited and some open editions were very popular with our customers for many years. However his UK distributer had problems and his work disappeared for a while. Just before Christmas we happened across his new work and bought in a few open edition prints. We framed them in impactful frames and tried them out in December – they were very well received by our customers, so we have added a few of his images to our range – they are on our website as well as in the gallery so why not take a look at http://www.originalartshop.co.uk For lower priced decorative pieces of work they are superb – there is also a link on our website ot a video of the artist at work.
